Walking or Bicycling scavenger hunt through the streets of Kansas City. Special awards include T-shirts, jerseys, water bottles, lights, and cash. Free for walkers, $5 for cyclists. Registration on-site from 10 am – 10:45 am. Alley Kat starts at 11 am.
An alley kat rally is a point to points event in traffic where people are given clues. You will be visiting a permanent supportive housing site, several homeless shelters, a drug dealing park, some food drop off places, talking to homeless people on the streets, finding some of the city’s best street art, looking at homeless camps, seeing some really inspiring city relaxation and stress removal locations, seeing the downtown library and transit headquarters, and talking to mental health consumers about their experiences. All this in 1 1/2 hours. Then lunch at an open house at one of Missouri’s 6 peer support centers.
Alley Kat rallys do not depend on brains, not speed. They rely on collaboration with other riders, knowing the city, making smart routing decisions, reading the directions, and choosing how best to navigate through traffic. These are traditionally hosted by bike messengers to show off their skills. Bring a map, a small bag, and a lock.
