The Grassroots Manifesto
How much of this world can I reach out and touch as I grow?
How much of this world do I give thanks and owe for breaking my daily bread?
How much of what’s left will sustain all the rest that’s why I keep it fresh
Read both sides of the aisle, pick through lies of both styles
Find the sense in the middle, how the world works out so the small never get full
Our hands coming up empty our jobs just short of hope and rent feed
Stuck in this system, chewing out clones with no vision who are
Scared of our persistence, pounding down our scientific and lived resistance
Time grinding us inside into the last clinking cog in the machine.
And then it will stop. The factory fall silent as a rock.
And we’ll walk out the dust, blinking through sunbeams shining on us
Reach out for that neighbor to meet eyes for the very first time
Spreading hope, building webs, weaving words,
Working with one another to dig out from under problems left us without number
Building systems with thoughtful decisions, not just chock full of big donor’s revisions,
Raising our voices in unity mending masses making movements of mutiny,
Finding our source of strength and solidity in our length of suffering through entire history,
Our struggle to make ends meet while trying to keep our fate and friends free,
It’s time to know who grubs out of greed and snubs how we bleed,
It’s time to show our power, to tear down those towers
Replace those fakers with our creators, let our new ideas take the earth and remake her
Hear our mission where everyone has a vision, a place and a position
Where we reward reaching out, redesign what this planet is all about
Let wisdom and connection replace the biggest of inefficient inventions
Let our community challenge past choices, let us rally round new voices,
Let’s each of us speak, without you, we are weak.
