Faces for Al

Faces for Al – I met Al Henning in a class to help people build new lives instead of getting back to the old life. Here’s his memorial website. I worked with him for 3 1/2 years as a friend and a peer support specialist. He was a volunteer for Compassionate Ear when I worked for Mental Health America of the Heartland. I made this collage for his friends and family at his funeral. A lot of people at the funeral told me they really liked it. I printed 50 copies because I didn’t think Al had very many friends. I thought Al was pretty much alone in the world. Well, 60 people came to the funeral and I was scavenging copies from my local friends who can always get one later from me. I printed out full scale collages for Amy Shoffner, Al’s DBT therapist, and for William Henning, Al’s brother. Here’s the full text of the poem if you can’t read it in this collage.
